Healthcare is under heavy pressure during the crown crisis.
Scheduled surgeries have had to be canceled to accommodate patients who have been seriously ill on covid-19.
Now, Medical Director Gunilla Enblad, at the Uppsala Academic Hospital, warns that the number of cancer diagnoses has decreased during the crown crisis.
And there’s no question about it, she says.
– Those people have not disappeared. They are out there somewhere. They will not, they have not dared to search. Even our own patients don’t dare look for their complications, she says in SVT’s “Aktuellt”.
The call: “Seek help”
Gunilla Enblad, therefore, sends a request to interested persons.
– Medical care exists, we can manage cancer care. Seek help if you need it.
Expressen previously reported that they seek less treatment for heart attacks. The number of people seeking hospital care for myocardial infarction has decreased dramatically in Europe.
– The instructions on “staying home” or “not going to the hospital” do not apply to patients with symptoms of heart attack, Professor Barbara Casadei, president of the European Cardiovascular Society, ESC, said in a press release.
