At Malmö hospital, most covid patients are cared for. 139 people with covid-19 receive hospital care here.

The number of covid patients in hospitals has continued to decline during the week in Skåne.

But the development of IVA is almost stagnant, although it is no longer necessary to send IVA patients to other regions.

– These are still seriously ill patients who are often in critical condition, says Pia Lundbom, director of health and medical care in the Skåne Region.

The number of people needing hospital care in Skåne continues to decline. This is mainly due to a reduction in wards, where it has decreased by 60 patients in one week. Last Friday, 351 patients with covid-19 were treated in the wards, this Friday 291. Three weeks ago, on January 7, the peak was reached, when 568 patients with covid were treated in the wards, and 630 people in total . .

– Now we see a reduction in the rooms. Unfortunately, we don’t see the same reduction in VAT. But that doesn’t mean that medical care isn’t burdened. These are still seriously ill patients who are often in critical condition, although we have improved significantly in treatment, said Pia Lundbom, director of health and medical care for the Skåne Region during the week.

55 people are cared for in intensive care units. Last Friday, the corresponding figure was 56. This is basically quiet and the pressure on intensive care remains very high.

The pressure on healthcare is generally somewhat less than before, although it remains a very tense situation. In recent weeks, the number of care facilities for covid patients has also increased as the situation looked worse. We now have a better chance of receiving more patients and maintaining preparedness for a possible deterioration of the situation, the region’s director of health and medical care said during this week’s press conference.

– We have also managed to create a contingency for about 700 covid sites. Not all seats are used today, but they will remain if the curve were to turn again, Pia Lundbom said.
