This weekend, double races will be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedways. Qualifying at first looked very promising for both Swedes, but ended with Felix Rosenqvist taking the seventh starting position and Marcus Ericsson in the 15th position.
The Swedes were more impressive in the race.
Especially Felix Rosenqvist.
The 28-year-old from Värnamo was once forced to give up a spot for teammate Scott Dixon. It was a fairly simple team order, forcing the Swede back onto the field.
But he took it again.
Felix showed the highest class the last half of the race.
This was for a long time his best race of the season, aside from the victory at Road America.
Felix had a bit of a rough time at first and dropped to 11th place and it was on lap 30 that he had to drop Scott Dixon. Felix was then six years old and Marcus eight.
10,000 spectators on the track
The race was held in front of 10,000 spectators at the massive facility, which at the Indy 500 has 300,000 spectators.
The last ten laps turned into a true thriller for the podium behind winner Josef Newgaarden.
Four pilots had a real duel.
Colton Herta, Alexander Rossi, Rinus Veekay, and Felix Rosenqvist.
It seemed like Felix Rosenqvist would finish third for a long time.
But with seven laps to go, Felix slid down to fourth place and two laps later he was in fifth place.
Marcus Ericsson was in eighth a few laps and looked ninth for a long time. But he finished in tenth place.
The next race will be held on Saturday night.
With Friday’s victory for Josef Newgaarden, the championship has turned into a really hot duel between him and Scott Dixon.
