French police have carried out a series of house searches of Islamist militants after the murder of a history professor in the Paris suburb of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine on Friday, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said.

– Police operations have been carried out and more are on the way, he tells the Europa 1 radio channel.

In total, around eighty different investigations are being carried out on cyber hatred. The murdered teacher Samuel Paty had been threatened online for showing controversial cartoons of the prophet of Islam Muhammad and, according to the interior minister, a known Muslim militant and the father of a student had issued a fatwa against the teacher before the murder. It is now being investigated whether certain Muslim associations in the country should be dissolved after accusations that they advocated violence and hatred.

The alleged killer was shot and killed by police shortly after the attack. Since last Friday, eleven people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The murder has sparked widespread protests and demonstrations in Paris.
