In the new Playstation game “Spider-man: Miles Morales,” where the superhero sways forward in a largely faithfully rendered Manhattan, the famous building is missing.
This has got players wondering, as the game’s 2018 predecessor includes the Chrystler building. Now it has been replaced by a gray anonymous lump for a skyscraper. The explanation can be found in that the Chrysler scraper in March 2019 changed ownership.
Developer Insomniac says they also wanted to recreate as many landmarks as possible in the new game.
– Sometimes negotiations in some of those places did not take place, as was the case at the Chrysler Building, says James Stevenson of developer Insomniac of the game site Gameinformer.
Buildings may be protected by US copyright laws, just like other works of art.
– So to be able to recreate it, whether as a new building, as part of a t-shirt, model or even put it in a video game, you need permission from the copyright owner, says Michael Lee at the company. Lee Law, to the site.
If the building spends a few seconds in a movie, for example, it is probably considered reasonable use. But if you’re going to have a more prominent role, for example to be able to climb like a Spider-Man and look into every nook and cranny, it probably shouldn’t be considered as such. And instead of taking chances and risking a lawsuit, creators can choose not to participate in the Chrysler Building.
“The more prominent the use, the more likely it is to be considered a violation,” Stevenson told Gameinformer.

When the Chrysler Building, with its Art Deco style, was completed in May 1930, it was the tallest building in the world in just over a year. With its special roof, it still stands out on the east side of Manhattan.
He conquered the place as the tallest building in the world in the fight against The Bank of Manhattan, by secretly building a 38-meter-high spire that was erected at the end.
The office building is almost 319 meters high and 77 floors above ground. It was designed by William Van Alen.
