Fake right and go left

Polykemi plastic blends are available in cars from Volvo, BMW and Volkswagen. For more than 50 years, the company has focused on niches that are too small for global chemical companies to care.
– We know our position, but sometimes we cheat the giants and get deals that we really shouldn’t be able to win, says Ola Hugoson, CEO of Polykemi.

The raw materials at the Polykemi factory in Ystad are polymers with hard to pronounce names. They are delivered in the form of granules, a kind of rice grains of different colors. The final products, which are ready in big bags at the other end of the factory, are confusingly similar: granules of different colors. But, in fact, they are completely different products. In the factory, the raw materials are first mixed with each other. In one of the 24 production lines, they are then fused at high temperatures. The finished product comes out as strands that are dried and then cut into granules again.
