Police and rescue services were alerted to Danska vägen in Gothenburg on Sunday night after alarms about an explosion. The alarm went off at 9:30 p.m. and several witnesses told GP that the police quickly blocked the place.
– There has been an explosion in a truck at the site. But now the bomb squad has been investigating the area and found that it is safe at the site. But we are still at the scene and will conduct a crime scene investigation, says Fredrik Svedemyr, press spokesman for the West Police Region.
An ambulance has also been called to Danska vägen, but according to SOS Alarm, there is no information on personal injury.
– There has been an explosion, it is now secured by the bomb squad, but a continuous investigation of the crime scene will take place with less blockage. We suspect there is a crime behind this, says Fredrik Ohlqvist, the GP photographer’s on-site operations manager.
The crime is currently classified as universal destruction.
– At the moment, we do not have any arrested or suspected person, says Fredrik Svedmyr.
The police do not want to delve into what witness information they have received or what exactly they have exploited.
– Technicians are on site and we will also continue to take witness statements, he says.
Extended barriers
According to a witness, the police extended the roadblocks in Danska vägen, around the Torkelsgatan crossing at ten o’clock.
The witness says there was a smell of gunpowder smoke and that police say they extended roadblocks due to the risk of further explosions.
– The information we have for us is that it is an explosion that has occurred, emphasizes Fredrik Svedmyr.
For traffic coming from Redbergsplatsen, the Danish road was blocked at the Lejonet och Björnen ice cream parlor.
“Keep people away”
Police also, through loudspeaker systems, urged residents to enter from balconies and not be near windows facing the Danish highway, witnesses say.
– The police are taking people now, says a witness at the scene.
