A total of 292 Danes have been confirmed infected by the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to the health authority Statens Serum Institut.
A lower figure than between Thursday and Friday, when 317 new cases of covid-19 were discovered, DR writes.
In particular, people between the ages of 20 and 29 are currently affected by the virus.
– My call to young people is to limit their social networks so that they do not meet many different people. Stay with your team or your class, and just a few friends and immediate family, says Tyra Grove Krause, department head of the Statens Serum Institut, in a press release.
In addition to young people, health personnel have also been affected by covid-19 recently, BT reports.
In total, 117 healthcare workers have been infected.
– Health professionals should pay special attention when it comes to the possibility of becoming infected in private meetings, as it can have significant consequences if they bring the infection to their workplace where there are vulnerable people, says Tyra Grove Krause.
Continuous increase in Copenhagen
At the local level, in Denmark, 11 new cases of covid-19 have been registered in the cities of Horsens and Vejle. At the same time, Esbjerg has detected 12 new cases of corona.
In the capital Copenhagen, 59 new cases have been confirmed in the last 24 hours.
– We are now in the most worrying situation since last spring, Health Minister Magnus Heunicke said earlier in the week.
To stop the spread of the infection, a series of coronary restrictions have been reintroduced in Copenhagen. Including that restaurants and cafes must close before midnight and a maximum of 50 people can meet in one place.
Unexpected early rise
In Danish hospitals, 44 patients infected with Covid-19 are now being treated, reports the Statens Serum Institut. The number has increased by nine people in the last 24 hours.
So far, the Danish healthcare system can handle the increase in infections, says intensive care physician Joachim Hoffmann-Petersen, who is also president of the Danish Association for Anesthesia and Intensive Care.
But healthcare is concerned that the spike in infection occurred so early in the fall.
– This means that we will experience an increase in intensive care units in the coming weeks, says Joachim Hoffmann-Petersen to TV2.
– Right now we can handle it well. But when the number goes over 65 (patients), we will probably have to shut down entire parts of society again.
Since it is primarily the elderly and already ill who will need intensive care due to COVID-19, Joachim Hoffmann-Petersen’s call is on everyone else to review their own behavior.
Keep your distance, wash your hands, and think about how many guests should be invited to the next party.
-We must tighten now, otherwise it will be a long winter, he says.
