Vote in Florida, where there is a risk of a recalculation.
The US presidential election appears to be a thriller. In major Florida, the Trump campaign has proclaimed victory, but the result is not set in stone and the vote count can be a long story.
The 29 electoral votes in Florida are important for both sides, but especially for Trump, whose path to electoral victory becomes clearly more difficult in the event of a defeat there.
– The state is important. Probably more important to Trump than to Biden, because Biden can win in several other states than Trump, says Dag Blanck, a professor of American studies at Uppsala University.
And a definitive result may be delayed, according to Jason Mollica, a professor at the American University in Washington DC.
– If it’s a few percentage points, Democrats will make sure there are new calculations, he says.
– I think the Democrats will fight for Florida. It will never be a state that is ignored.
“Softer than expected”
A nail biter. This is how Elizabeth Walentin, a US-born political scientist and public relations consultant who has previously worked with democratic election campaigns, describes the presidential elections so far.
– Before the election, many Democrats believed in a landslide victory for Biden, but now it’s smoother than many thought beforehand, he says.
– Many Democrats are particularly disappointed that it is softer in states where it was assumed it would be a sure victory for Biden. Florida, for example, is a state where many, for example, thought it would win convincingly.
TT: How do you see the chances for Biden right now?
– It’s hard to say who will win, but Biden still has a chance, says Walentin.
“Potentially bad”
For Biden, it would seem dark if he lost to Ohio and Pennsylvania alongside Florida. However, it appears that Trump has an advantage in Florida.
For Trump, losing Ohio is problematic and if he loses Arizona, it’s also problematic, according to Mollica.
– If he loses Iowa, it’s a big deal, or if he loses North Carolina, then it’s a worrying trend for him. It’s not necessarily certain that New York will go to Biden, but if it does, Trump could end up in a black hole.
