Three people who died in California in February were later found to be infected with the coronavirus. They died long before the first death on covid-19 was reported from the United States.
Two people died in their homes on February 6 and 17, said the Santa Clara County coroner, who received confirmation from the United States CDC. A third person in Santa Clara died on March 6 in a disease caused by the coronavirus.
Previously, the first death from the coronavirus in the United States was believed to have occurred in Washington in late February.
“These three people died at home when very limited evidence was only possible through the CDC,” the medical examiner writes in a statement.
Then only people who had recently traveled and sought care for their symptoms were evaluated.
The medical examiner hopes that more cases related to the coronavirus will be discovered in Santa Clara.
