36 times more than five meters in half an hour. With that result, Armand Duplantis and Renaud Lavillenie shared the victory in a live broadcast competition on Sunday night. But Duplantis would have wanted a decision.
On Sunday night Finnish time, cane giants Armand Duplantis, Sam Kendricks and Renaud Lavillenie offered something as rare as live sports.
The arrangement was of the most unusual type: the stars jumped home in their own gardens; Duplantis at Lafayette in the United States, Kendricks at Oxford in the United States, and Lavillenie at Clermont-Ferrand in France.
The rules? Jump more than five meters as many times as possible in half an hour.
The competition became a nail biter. Kendricks jumped at a slower pace and came out just as fast from victory.
Duplantis and Lavillenie in turn reached the final.
Wanted “playoff”
After half an hour of jumping, both had reached the altitude 36 times. When both Duplantis and Lavillenie were once demolished, they were allowed to share in the victory.
This despite the fact that Duplantis wanted a decisive.
– Should we have a tie? asked the Swede on the live broadcast.
– No, I don’t want to continue. I am completely exhausted and don’t want to take any risks, Lavillenie’s response was.
American Kendricks passed the height 26 times. The competition was broadcast live by the International Athletics Association and can be found here (external link).
