A few feet from the steep edge of the avalanche on Norwegian Ask is Even Østreng’s 19-year-old’s first own car, a green Volkswagen golf. He and three other friends were in the car at 3:57 on Wednesday night. He would even bring home one of the friends who lived in the valley. But suddenly, the road in front of the car’s headlights looked strange.
– It looked like the asphalt somehow cracked. We were in a rush to get out of the car and when we got out, the road was off. After that we didn’t stop and look, but ran up the hill, Even says, explaining that it was difficult to determine in the dark what he was seeing, but from the little he saw he realized that the smartest thing to do was to run.

They ran to the roundabout above. Families with children and others began to arrive only in their underwear, which they tried to help the best they could and decided to block the road they had just driven down.
– We were safe and we thought we could just as easily stay there for a while and make sure no one drove the same way we did, says Even.
A few days after the mud swept home and people, the headlights were turned off, the snow settled in a thick layer on the roof and hood. Even look at Bjådalsfjellet’s car on the other side of the valley.
– It feels weird. It is very special to look at, it is not so nice, he says.

The friend who was to be released still has his home, although it is not possible to get there at this time, and Even believes that the other friends are feeling good too, although the whole area has been negatively affected by the incident.
– Most of the people are very sad. There is nothing positive in any way, it has settled like a shadow on the field and everyone is sad.
It is the last day of school holidays and on Monday all the children will go back to school. He even has another ten days left before going north for military service.
– It will be a bit strange, but there is not much you can do about it, he says and recounts that he does not have much hope of recovering his car that has come a little closer to the edge because more minor landslides have occurred since the night of the disaster .
