European countries on Friday condemned Israel’s decision to build more illegal homes in the occupied West Bank.
“The expansion of the settlements is contrary to international law and endangers the conditions for a two-state solution as a peaceful end to the conflict between Israel and Palestine,” reads the joint statement signed by Germany’s foreign ministers. , France, Great Britain, Italy and Spain.
The statement comes a day after Israel announced that it had approved the construction of nearly 5,000 new homes in the occupied West Bank.
The Foreign Ministers continue the statement saying that the construction of more illegal settlements would be “counterproductive in view of the recent development of normalization achieved through the agreements between Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.”
