It is the city of Alamata, about 12 miles from the regional capital of Mekelle, which has been “liberated” from the rule of the Tigran People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), the Addis Ababa government claims.
As the flow of information from Tigray has been restricted, the data could not be confirmed by independent means.
TPLF has also not commented government statement.
But the leader of the rebel movement, Debretsion Gebremichael, accuses government forces of, among other things, using drones to attack a pond and a sugar factory in the region.
– (Prime Minister) Abiy Ahmed for this war against the people of Tigray and he is responsible for deliberately causing human suffering and the destruction of large infrastructure projects, he says.

Hundreds of people has so far died in clashes, which began when Peace Prize winner Abiy Ahmed sent troops to fight regional forces in Tigray, following accusations that they subsequently attacked federal forces.
Reports of massacres have also prompted the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, to express her concern over the commission of war crimes.
More than 25,000 people have fled the violence and sought refuge in neighboring Sudan, where refugee camps are already overcrowded, according to Sudanese authorities.
