The airstrikes are said to have taken place near the region’s capital, Mekele. Among other things, the rocket launchers have been destroyed, according to the prime minister, whose speech was broadcast by the state media company Fana.

According to Abiy Ahmed, military operations in the northern region are limited.

No independent sources

Reports of shelling and troop movements have previously come from the region, despite problems with phone traffic and Internet connections. No independent source has been able to confirm the information.

The Abiy Ahmed outbreaks came after days of clashes between government forces and armed groups in Tigray, which has been basically autonomous for three decades.

The UN calls for a reduction

The Addis Ababa regime, led by Nobel laureate Abiy Ahmed, seems to want to change that. But ambiguities remain about how the fighting started this week.

Addis Ababa says that Tigray forces have attacked an Ethiopian military base. The Tigray leadership claims that Ethiopia has made up excuses to launch an offensive.

On Friday, the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, called on the parties to seek an escalation of the conflict.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against

Due to the security situation, the Swedish Foreign Ministry (UD) has advised against all travel to the Tigray region and the Amhara region north of Gondar since 6 November.
