Estonia is pushing for new dives to take place at M / S Estonia.
In a letter to the government, the Estonian Foreign Minister writes that the countries involved must quickly implement various measures, which in practice include a diving operation.
But the responsible minister Mikael Damberg (S) hesitates and calls for a discussion on “alternative measures” where the peace of the grave is respected.
The Estonian Foreign Minister’s letter to Foreign Minister Ann Linde (S) was registered with the Swedish government last Friday and contains several sharp points.
Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu writes that a cabinet meeting was held in the Estonian government on October 6, where it was decided on four points that are “top priority for investigation”.
In practice, underwater operation requires an underwater operation that includes at least one diving robot.
Has a list of actions
These are the following measures according to the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
✓ Identify how the wreck is found at the bottom of the sea and investigate how and if the ferry has capsized over the years.
✓ Investigate the surface of the seafloor below and around Estonia.
✓ To identify any holes in the wreck, and if so, carefully document where in the wreck the hole is located, how big it is, and what type of damage it may be.
✓ To find out when the injury occurred and how the injury affected the course of the disaster:
“Identify the nature of the damage, when it occurred and its possible role when the ferry sank,” urged Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu in the letter.

According to information from the documentary series, produced by Dplay, the hole is four meters high and has previously been partially hidden towards the seabed.

The damage to the Estonian hull is four meters high and 1.2 meters at the widest point. Here it is illustrated in a graph.
In the letter, the Foreign Minister further writes that he asks the Swedish government to designate a contact person at the political level to prepare the investigation he wants to initiate, and that he endeavors to involve family organizations in the process.
In Sweden, it is formally the Minister of the Interior Mikael Damberg (S) who is responsible for the Estonian question that has arisen. His press secretary, Per Strängberg, states in a comment:
“The letter was received at the end of last week and today it has been answered by the government. The cooperation between the expert authorities in Sweden, Finland and Estonia has started and we have a very good dialogue with our Finnish and Estonian colleagues.”
However, the reply letter from Interior Minister Mikael Damberg to the Estonian Government shows a wait-and-see attitude to the Estonian Government’s four-point list and proposes a discussion on “alternative measures” in its reply.
He writes that “it is necessary to jointly discuss possible alternative measures and analyze the conditions for these in a way that takes into account the serious international peace agreement to protect Estonia from all forms of disruptive activities.”
