Starting December 15, passengers arriving by plane, ferry or train will only have to be quarantined for five days starting December 15. After that, participants can take a covid-19 test and if it is negative, they can move freely.

– Our new test strategy will allow us to travel more freely, meet our loved ones and lead into international trade, says Transportation Minister Grant Shapps.

According to the British government, it will be easier to travel abroad, since the two weeks in quarantine that apply today are avoided on return. Travelers who want to use the new system must book and pay for the test themselves based on a list of approved providers.

There has been a great demand for simplified rules from, among others, the aviation industry. Along with the new rules, also comes a support package for commercial airports.

– With this message, there is light at the end of the tunnel not only for British airlines and flights, but also for customers who want to leave at Christmas and in the future, says Tim Alderslade, director of the industrial organization Airlines UK.

The British government decides on transport policy for England, while the governments of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland make their own.
