32-year-old Emma Berglund managed to leave Gothenburg for Rosengård before the ship sank.

Following the news of the Gothenburg closure, the first reaction was shock, which has started to turn to anger.

– I suffer with the players left in the situation, he says.

After many yes and buts, it became clear that national team defender Emma Berglund will play for FC Rosengård in the future.

During the day he had met with some friends and once he opened the phone he found the news that Gothenburg is shutting down its elite operations.

– It’s very strange. I’m far from all the details on this, but the first feeling is just a shock starting to turn into a bit of anger, he says.

She develops:

– I don’t know the details around him. But still, the little I’ve heard is that they’ve been feeling it since December 17th. At the same time, you recruit players and it won’t come until now. A decision like this shouldn’t come overnight. In my opinion, it is not connected that you recruit players and then end up in this situation. I don’t know, it’s boring. It doesn’t look good for Swedish sports and women’s football. Especially when it comes to a club that just won the Swedish Championship gold. It shouldn’t happen, he tells Sportbladet.

Sportingly, he is a great competitor for his new club. Are you feeling a heavy blow for the Swedish women’s league and football in general?

– Yes, Gothenburg has always had its way to go in terms of sponsors and such and it is clear that it is Bronsman (Peter, president) who has been a leader in all of that. That he only comes like this he has to deal with. But yeah, I don’t know if you know more than I do but it feels strange, says Berglund.

“Obligation to explain”

Do you feel a betrayal of the players and leaders of the club?

– Yes, in a way it will be considering how it comes out. We were not told anything at the beginning of the year. I have been in clubs that have had financial problems and then you have heard it. It is still kind of an obligation to explain to his employees, in this case, how the situation is and therefore it feels as if he is not connected. I don’t know if he (Bronsman) is tired or if he has taken a financial hit. . I don’t know so it’s hard to tell. But when it comes to this hux flow, it feels weird, he says.

Investment critical

Emma Berglund left the club in high-profile ways. Already in mid-September, he said he would leave after the season.

He has previously criticized the club for thinking that a real investment has not been made and feels that conditions have been given for it.

– I still believe it. I didn’t think the economy was the problem. Not because I had a mega salary, I really don’t. But I didn’t think the economy was the main reason something like this would happen, he says.

“What is the danger”

Rosengård’s sporting director, Therese Sögran, was, like Berglund, shocked by the news and the suffering of the players, leaders and women’s football in general.

– Bronsman and Kopparberg have been the ones who have run the club all along and that’s probably the danger. When the club is in the lap of a sponsor like that. It feels bad to do this. That’s the first feeling, he tells Sydsvenskan.

With players in Gothenburg now having to look for new club addresses, it is not impossible that there will be an addition at Rosengård or other damallsvenska clubs.

– Of course we have to look at everything, which players will be available, says Sjögran.
