Voting has started after the fateful election in Georgia, which marks Joe Biden’s first time in the White House.

But the incoming president’s staff are planning a defeat against the Trump duo.

– It would be a miracle if we win, says a source to Politico.

Polling stations in Georgia closed at 1 o’clock on Wednesday night Swedish time, after the second round of the state senate elections. If the vote shows Democrats have taken home both seats, cheers await Joe Biden and his incoming staff.

Everything indicates that it will be a true night of biting nails for both parties. Polls indicate that Democrats have received a higher proportion of early votes than during the November elections. Something that is absolutely essential to spin and win. Now Republicans expect their voters to have voted in large numbers on Election Day.

If the choice is as uniform as many experts suspect, it may take a long time before the results are completely clear. Republican candidates David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, like Donald Trump in November, are likely to lead early in the evening, as the first votes are counted last. The Democratic stronghold of Atlanta is also slow to report its results.

Two victories for the Democrats would mean they would end up 50-50 in the Senate, and since the vice president has a casting vote, it means a majority for the party, and much easier to pass their bills.

The second house of Congress, the House of Representatives, is already under the control of the Democrats.

The most expensive Senate elections in history

Georgia has special rules that require a candidate to get at least 50 percent of the vote in the first round to get a direct victory. Now nobody got to either place. That in itself is not extraordinary, but never before has it had such enormous consequences for the entire country.

The fact that one state decides the entire national political game plan has made this the most expensive and most respected Senate election in history. Both President Trump and incoming President Biden held campaign rallies in Georgia on Monday.

And both were clear about how important the result is for each game.

Donald Trump painted a grim picture of the future with an America that will almost have to duck under the banner of socialism if the Democrats take home both seats, and thus the Senate. He also claimed that one of the candidates, Pastor Raphael Warnock, is the most dangerous person to ever stand in a Senate election.

Joe Biden, for his part, said during a meeting in Atlanta that the entire future of America is in the hands of Georgia.

“A state can set the course not just for four years, but for an entire generation,” he said.

He also said that the victories of Warnock and the other candidate Jon Ossoff were instrumental in achieving important efforts for the effects of the pandemic, both in terms of vaccination and support packages.

See victory as a miracle

On Tuesday, Joe Biden said in interviews that he was optimistic about Election Night and believes in victory. But behind the scenes, your staff have started planning for a loss and see the alternative as a barely achievable bonus.

Advisers are skeptical of Warnock and Ossoff’s barking opportunities. A Democrat has not won a Georgia Senate seat in more than 20 years, and a person close to Joe Biden’s staff says the duo’s accomplishments would be “nothing short of a miracle,” Politico said.

It is suspected that Joe Biden managed to win Georgia in the November presidential election is due in large part to a dissatisfaction with Donald Trump that one dares not expect will affect this Senate election in the same way.

In the first round, Republican David Perdue received 88,000 more votes than Ossoff, and the two Republicans who ran for second place, including Kelly Loeffler, received a total of 636,000 more votes than Warnock.

The numbers show that both Democrats need a real boost in this election to stand a chance.

I hope Trump decides

The hope that Democrats hold revolves around Donald Trump and his long battle against the election result and trench warfare against top Republicans in Georgia who defended the electoral system and denied the cheating allegations.

– There is growing hope on our part because Trump has done everything he can to sabotage Perdue and Loeffler. It’s hard to imagine the things he could have done to hurt them more, a Democrat in the House of Representatives tells Politico.

Both Perdue and Loeffler have also worked with headwinds during the election campaign. Perdue has been quarantined during the final sprint after staying close to a covid patient. Loeffler was never Donald Trump’s favorite from the start and he has been forced to go to great lengths to show that he is worthy of his support.

During Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Dalton on Monday night, he was allowed to speak for a few minutes, and then mainly to say that he will protest when Congress formally addresses Electoral College votes on Wednesday.

Officially, Biden’s staff say they work according to the same priority list for the first 100 days, regardless of who finishes in the majority in the Senate. It is about efforts against the pandemic, recession, climate change and the situation of minority groups.

But they also admit that how far one can go on each issue depends on the party that governs the Senate.

A high-ranking former Democrat tells Politico that the whole plan is based on Republicans sticking to the majority.
