Schaffer: It has meant a lot

Guitarist Janne Schaffer tells TT that Eddie Van Halen’s death means another of music’s greats has passed away.

– It is very sad. It has meant a lot, says Schaffer and continues:

– When you heard him play, you knew immediately that it was Eddie van Halen. He really created his own musical identity.

Schaffer describes Van Halen’s contribution to music saying that he was at the forefront of technology development work for playing the guitar.

– He had a dazzling technique but at the same time a genuine expression. Sometimes it is said that you should not have too much technology, but I think in his case it was a great asset.
