But Russia clearly states that it does not intend to follow the ECHR’s call.
Russian Justice Minister Konstantin Chuychenko describes the court’s decision as an unprecedented intervention in the work of Russian courts. In addition, it says that the requirement cannot be met because it is not based on Russian law, Russian news agencies report.
Navalny has been sentenced to several years in prison for violating the rules of a previous suspended sentence. He is also involved in several other lawsuits, including a defamation charge of a 95-year-old war veteran.
According to Navalny himself, insufficient measures have been taken to protect his life and health.
Russia has told the court that security for him is sufficient, among other things, his cell phone is monitored by video.
Navalny became seriously ill in August last year during a trip from Tomsk to Siberia. He was treated at a hospital in Germany, where it was discovered that he had been poisoned with the neurotoxin novitjok.
When Navalny returned to Russia in January, he was immediately arrested. The arrest and legal proceedings against him have led to significant protests and convictions in the country and internationally.
