Ebba Andersson is off to a rocky start on the Tour de ski. Last Friday, he was not in the top 30 and did not advance from sprint qualifiers. There was also no rematch in Saturday’s massive outing, but it finished in a pale twelfth place.
When it came time to start the hunt and the 10-kilometer freestyle, the trend was not reversed. The 23-year-old had a rough day at work, he had no chance against Frida Karlsson, Diggins and Brennan in the lead.
– Not an Ebba Andersson at the top, it may be the high altitude. Normally it should take a few seconds in a hunting situation like this, says SVT’s Anders Blomquist.
– It’s very unexpected when it comes to Ebba Andersson.
“I’m nobody, I only compete when things are going well”
Andersson finished as the 18th skier and was two minutes behind winner Jessica Diggins. The Swede is now in eighteenth place in the Tour de Ski general classification.
– It was quite exhausting, he says after the end.
How do you feel after these first few days?
– Not a great feeling, I must be honest and say that I expected much more. I’ve done what I’ve been able to do based on the conditions and it hasn’t been enough beyond this.
Do you have the motivation to run the entire route considering the total?
– Why shouldn’t I have it? I compete because I think it’s fun to challenge myself and be there at the starting line. It doesn’t matter how it goes in terms of results. I am not someone who only competes when things are going well, I compete anyway and hope to have the support of those at home regardless of success or adversity.
