BRUKSVALLARNA. The first race at Bruksvallarna was an exciting second battle between Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson.
– This sends warning signals west towards Norway ahead of the World Cup premiere, says SVT expert Anders Blomquist.
– I think you know what you’re talking about, says Ebba Andersson, who won by three seconds.
The ski season is on and the ladies started with a classic 10km ride in Bruksvallarna.
It was a dramatic second battle between distance stars Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson.
Piteå’s Ebba Andersson started the fastest, but was only half a second ahead of Frida Karlsson, Sollefteå, in the first half. Frida Karlsson then stepped into the lead and came forward, but Ebba Andersson kept the duel alive and followed her fellow national teammate.
– It’s incredibly exciting, says SVT expert Anders Blomquist, who said that the duo’s achievements will be noticed in Norway ahead of the World Cup that starts next weekend.
– Therese Johaug has two tough opponents in Ebba Andersson and Frida Karlsson, says Blomquist.
Ebba, who had Frida Karlsson times to keep going, lunged forward and was just a second behind with a kilometer to go. Then Ebba Andersson, Piteå Elite, increased and won by three seconds at the end. She was aware of the dramatic second battle.
– I’d say still pretty conscious. I spent a few seconds that was very even with Frida, that were a few seconds here and there. I was prepared in advance that everything would be calm, says Ebba Andersson, who was satisfied with the victory.
– There is nobody I managed to defeat today, he points out.
Frida Karlsson has been concerned about a small sensation in her groin before the premiere and was pleased with the sensation in her body afterwards.
– It was a good race. What has worried me the most is my groin, considering that I am very happy, he says.
He felt no pain after the race.
– No. During the race you were completely inside. But you feel like it’s the first race, you’re a bit stressed on the journey, he says.
Emma Ribom was third and Linn Svahn, sprint specialist, finished fourth. But they were more than a minute and 20 seconds behind the close duo.
Charlotte Kalla did not start when she was recently ill with covid-19.
