The season is over and Mondo is coming home.

Home of Sweden, not the US

– Yes, I’m actually starting to feel more and more Swedish. It’s cozy in Sweden, he tells Sportbladet.

Swedish is not fluent so far and is more comfortable with English.

But it’s better than most people think and after all the summer in Uppsala she has learned more and more Swedish expressions.

And when he says that Sweden is “welcoming”, he does it in Swedish.

There are probably those who thought Mondo would take the first best plane back to the US and warm Louisiana now that the season is over and the darkness of fall is settling over Sweden.

But no.

It is in Sweden where he wants to relax after the season, despite the fact that both father Greg, mother Helena and all the brothers are back in Louisiana in the United States.

And there is one thing in particular that attracts:

To be able to go back to the golf course.

“He never played”

– Yes, I have not done more than check the weather in Sweden the last week. I have seen that it has been hot and sunny. Now I just hope it lasts, please! I really want to go out and play a few rounds when I get back. Preferably every day, she says.

Yes, the Gulf came into his life when the United States closed during the first crown outbreak.

Mondo couldn’t train except in his own backyard, when gyms and sports venues closed.

– The only thing that was open and where you could keep your distance were the golf courses. That is why I started. So basically, I would never have played golf, Mondo told me before.

But what started as a hobby quickly turned into a new passion.

And it continued when Mondo arrived in Sweden.

He played golf at Falsterbo and went for a round with Prince Daniel on Öland.

More images of golf than pole vault reached the newsrooms around the world.

Although she could train here, the golf courses were so appealing that mother Helena Duplantis finally had to put her foot down.

There was a golf ban for the remainder of the competition season.

The result?

“I reached my goal”

A successful new summer despite all the problems and the lack of basic training.

Mondo was finally able to break Sergei Bubka’s 26-year-old outdoor record (6.14) when he jumped 6.15 in Rome’s Diamond League.

– Yes, I am incredibly happy with the season, given the conditions. I reached the goal I had set for myself.

But now it will be golf and Swedish everyday life.

– Yes, I have no reason to rush back to the United States. I thrive in Sweden, I like the people and I am beginning to feel at home.
