An ambulance driver in Kalmar County was suspended by his employer after what is described as a crazy trip, reports Dagens Vimmerby.
On Wednesday evening, the driver was to drive an ambulance with four patients and an employee of the social administration in the municipality of Kalmar, from Linköping to Kalmar.
David Schmidinger from the social administration tells Dagens Vimmerby that he was afraid they would not survive. According to Schmidinger, the 35-year-old man drove more than 80 miles per hour on 80 highways, stuck in front of speed cameras, drove on the wrong side of the road and made several dangerous overtaking.
– When it was at its worst, sufferers just walked in the back of the car, says David Schmidinger.
The trip didn’t end until Schmidinger called the police and managed to convince the driver to stop.
– I managed to grab him by the neck and repeatedly yelled at him to stop the bus immediately and give me the keys to the bus, says Schmidinger.
Then the driver got out of the car and ran into the woods, but police found him a couple of hours later. You are now suspended and the employer will investigate the incident. The man is suspected of negligence in traffic.
