VITTSJÖ. There was a great drama in Vittsjö.
Umeå was on course for a resounding victory in the tough away game, but lost after Vittsjömål’s double in extra time.
– It’s wonderful to win that way. I think I yelled at everyone who had the ball, just hit it, says Clara Markstedt of Vittsjö after the 3-2 win.
Umeå arrived in Vittsjö without the ailing Sanna Kullberg and Lova Lundin, and without the highly talented Monica Jusu Bah, who was injured in her foot.
They also came without a win in the last four games.
The Damallsvenska rookie, by contrast, had long sought to travel north with three points after changing from 0-1 to 2-1.
But in extra time, it became very dramatic when Vittsjö managed to turn the game around, again.
“Many different emotions”
Ebba Hed and Clara Markstedt brought the guests down with their respective goals in the 91st and 93rd minutes of the match after the referee showed three extra minutes on the board.
– This match had many different emotions. We are in control of the game from the beginning and we score goals early. So the feeling is that we are waiting for more to come. At 2-1 it burns a little and lasts quite a long time. But winning in injury time makes for a very good victory, says Clara Markstedt.
After two straight crosses (and five consecutive victories before that), a further victory was expected for table five, thus taking the points for the eighth consecutive game.
– I think it’s very important. We have a couple of draws that I think we should have won. That we now win and that we win this way means that we gain self-confidence, says Markstedt.
“Kristianstad must take the slap”
For Umeå, it was the fifth game in a row without a win and the players were really disappointed.
– Really bitter right now if you can be honest. It’s a lot of emotions, says a distraught Therese Simonsson.
What did they say to each other afterwards in the ring?
– This is soccer. We remain a team that defends each other. Kristianstad next week can take a beating for this.
She still thinks that the team can take a lot of effort.
– I think we play good games against good rivals. So I think we should keep doing our thing and everything will be fine. We won a point against Rosengård, that shows that we are a good team.
