It was in mid-September that the boy was forced to seek emergency care, one day after eating “Dragon’s Breath”, which are nitrogen-filled corn balls. Even a friend of the boy who had also eaten the cornballs was forced to seek attention, according to the Siren news agency.
Immediately after the illness, a doctor at Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital raised the alarm to the Stockholm City Environmental Administration.
A few days later, the Poison Information Center issued a warning for the corn balls.
– We especially want to warn young people in their teens, who see this on social media. It’s mostly on Tik-Tok right now, but it’s also happened on Instagram, Christin Edmark, chief physician at the Poisons Information Center, said in connection with the warning.
Forbidden “Dragon’s breath”
According to the Stockholm city environmental administration, no similar cases are known and there is no information about other retailers in the municipality, reports the Siren news agency.
When the environmental administration contacted the company behind the ice cream bar, they said that sales of “Dragon’s Breath” would cease immediately. But during an inspection a few days later, it turned out that this was not true, prompting the municipality to introduce a permanent ban.
– We started examining this immediately after the doctor’s report. Our role is to stop products on the market that are not considered safe. In this case, it is also a child who has been affected, says food inspector Helena Rosén to the Siren news agency.
