Michigan’s top two Republican politicians are sitting in a trench.
Donald Trump and his lawyers have set their sights on the state, which Biden won with 157,000 votes, and continue to make unconfirmed allegations of voter fraud on a large scale.
On Friday, Trump hosted Mike Shirkey and Lee Chatfield, Republican leaders of both houses of the Michigan State Congress, for a meeting at the White House.
Many in Michigan they were outraged that Shirkey and Chatfield accepted the invitation, which was widely viewed as an attempt by Trump to interfere in the state presidential election, pressuring politicians who nominate Michigan’s 16 voters.
For Trump, the meeting remained a disappointment. A statement came Friday night from the two Michigan Republicans, in which they wrote that they have not seen any irregularities that change the outcome of the election.
“The candidates who get the most votes win Michigan electoral votes,” they said.
But Trump has not Abandoned. On Saturday morning, he shared the statement from Shirkey and Chatfield on Twitter: with the following comment:
“This is true, but not at all as reported by the media. We will be able to demonstrate a massive and never-before-seen cheating!”
The two Republican state politicians are avoiding criticism from Trump, until now. He needs them a few more days in a desperate attempt to change the election.
Monday The election result in Michigan is officially approved and then the state Congress will name all 16 voters, all of whom will go to Biden.
In that situation, Trump is unlikely to be that friendly to his party colleagues in Michigan.
But the pressure on them also comes from below, from the conservative grassroots.
On saturday they met Large crowds of Trump supporters outside the convention building in Lansing, Michigan’s capital. When DN arrived at the scene at 11 o’clock, about 10 men from the Proud Boys, the right-wing extremist group that Trump had previously called in to “get ready,” arrived.
Hundreds of visitors are expected, many of them with weapons.
Their demand is simple: annul the election result and cast Trump Michigan electoral votes.
