NEW YORK. President Trump is said to have repeatedly called American soldiers who died in battle “losers” and “fools.” It appears in a new article in the Atlantic, which is now receiving a lot of attention in the United States.
Trump responds to the scathing criticism, claiming it is an attempt to influence the upcoming election.
During a trip to France in 2018, President Trump planned a visit to the Aisne-Marne cemetery outside Paris to honor the American soldiers who fell in World War I.
But the visit was canceled at the last minute.
Trump explained that a helicopter was unable to reach the area in the heavy rain and that Secret Service personnel were also unable to get it there.
That should not have been the real reason for the canceled visit, The Atlantic newspaper now reports.
“Pacifiers”
According to four anonymous first-hand sources, Trump is said to have been quite concerned that the rain would ruin his hairstyle. He is also reported to have said that he did not think it was important to honor American soldiers who died in battle.
“Why should I go to that graveyard? It’s full of losers,” Trump is said to have said, sources say.
In another conversation, during the same trip to France, Trump said that the 1,800 marines who lost their lives there were “fools” because they died in the fighting at Belleau Wood, the newspaper writes.
The Battle of Belleau Wood is of great importance in the history of the United States during the First World War. It was there that the Allies in Europe, along with the United States, halted Germany’s advance toward Paris.
During his stay in France, Trump is also said to have asked some of his closest associates, “Who were really the good guys in that war?” According to sources, he also stated that he did not understand why the United States intervened on the same side as the allies.

This is not the first time that Trump has made controversial statements about war veterans, even high-ranking Republican politicians. Former President George HW Bush called him a “loser” because he was shot down by the Japanese during his time as a fighter pilot.
Back in 2015, Trump spoke with contempt of Republican Senator John McCain, who was captured in the Vietnam War and was a prisoner of war for five years. “He is not a war hero. I like people who have not been captured,” Trump said in connection with his election campaign.

Counterattacks: false report
John McCain was one of the prominent Republicans who continued to criticize Trump, even after he was nominated for the presidency. When McCain died of cancer in 2018, Trump, according to Atlantic sources, said they “would not support the funeral of that loser.”
Meanwhile, at the White House, Trump has repeatedly spoken about appreciating military parades, but said he has special wishes. When the White House planned such an event in 2018, Trump is said to have asked his employees not to include amputee veterans in the parade, because he believed it might make spectators uncomfortable. “Nobody wants to see that,” he is said to have said.
Several Republicans have rallied in defense of the president, while Democrats have come out with harsh criticism. Presidential candidate Joe Biden took the opportunity to pay tribute to American war veterans.
The White House should not have wanted to comment on the information before the publication of the newspaper. But shortly thereafter, spokeswoman Alyssa Farah emailed a statement: “This report is false. President Trump has great respect for the military. He has demonstrated his commitment to them all along – by keeping his promise to give to our troops the pay raise they need, increasing military spending, signing reforms for veterans and supporting affected families. ”
Trump himself also fought back the storm of criticism after the report. After an election rally in Pennsylvania on Thursday night, he claimed that the article is a way of trying to influence the presidential election in two months.
– If these anonymous witnesses really exist, they are liars. I can swear by anything I never said that about our fallen heroes. Nobody respects them more than me.
