Michael Flynn was President Donald Trump’s first security adviser, a position he held for just over three weeks. The reason for his dismissal: he had lied to the vice president about his contacts with the Russian ambassador Kislyak.
After reaching a settlement with Russian investigator Robert Mueller, he also pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI and thus misled investigators of Trump’s campaign contacts with Russia.
Recovered recognition
After the confession, Flynn collaborated with Mueller for a time, but since the Mueller investigation was completed, he changed attorneys and tried to withdraw his confession. To his aid, he has had, among other things, the now widely discussed Sidney Powell, who over the fall, with the help of insane conspiracy theories, filed allegations of voter fraud and tried to help Trump pursue the issue.
Nor was a verdict delivered – it has been postponed time and again – and since the Justice Ministry in the spring intervened in the case and requested its closure, nothing has happened. Until now, when the outgoing president decided to forgive him.
