President Donald Trump has been transferred to Walter Reed Military Hospital. It should be in the hospital as a preventive measure, writes Reuters.
Donald Trump himself approached the helicopter that took him to the hospital, and the president showed a “thumbs up.” It was the first time he had appeared in public since it was known on Friday that he tested positive for covid-19.
– I think I feel very good but we will make sure that everything goes well, says the president in a video greeting on Twitter.
Must work from the hospital
The White House says the move to the hospital is a precautionary measure.
“Following the recommendations of his doctors and medical experts, the president will carry out his work from the president’s department at Walter Reed in the next few days,” said press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, according to the AFP news agency.
SVT’s US correspondent Stefan Åsberg comments that the president has been transferred to the hospital:
– It’s a dramatic development that we see on an otherwise very bumpy day, he says.
“Antibody treatment”
On Friday, Trump’s press secretary Kayleigh McEnany issued a statement from the president’s doctor, Sean Conley, stating that Trump is “tired but in a good mood.”
Trump is said to have symptoms such as fever, cough and fatigue. Trump’s doctors announce that the president has already received a treatment with synthetic antibodies, a cure that is still undergoing clinical trials, but has not yet been approved by the authorities.
“It has been vetted by various experts and together we will give the president and the first lady recommendations on what is best for the next step,” wrote White House physician Sean Conley in a statement.
According to the same statement, Melania Trump has “only headaches and a weak cough.”
