At 1:15 p.m. on December 5, 17-year-old Mattias Borg left a party in Ljungby without shoes, a jacket or a mobile phone.
A moment later, for some unknown reason, he arrived at a nearby village, but left again.
Since then, the 17-year-old has disappeared without a trace. Police have searched with sniffer dogs and divers. The Armed Forces and hundreds of volunteers have also helped.
I’ve been diving for a month
For more than a month, police have had divers searching the bottom of Lagan, but to no avail.
The divers have been below the surface for a total of 45 hours, according to P4 Radio Kronoberg, which first reported on the decision to pause investigations.
Working conditions have been difficult.
– It’s very cold in the water. Divers say it freezes to ice on rocks at a depth of forty feet, but the current keeps the water open, says Robert Loeffel.
The cold water has made it difficult for special search dogs to locate a possible body in Lagan. When it’s a bit warmer, dogs are more likely to burn out.
The investigation continues
Therefore, the investigation into the disappearance must continue.
– We will do a new take with the dogs a little later and then we will make a decision on how to proceed, says Robert Loeffel.
Earlier this week, the preliminary investigation into the crime related to the disappearance of Mattias Borg was dropped. The initial abduction classification was completely out of date.
– It arose in connection with relatives who received a text message in which someone demanded money to let them know what had happened to the 17-year-old, says Robert Loeffel.
– We investigated the text message, but could not find the sender who had an unregistered prepaid card. But we are convinced that this person had nothing to do with the disappearance.
