The Czech Republic came into play without having played a single international match in more than a year. He punished Sweden for not being able to map opponents as he wished. It also meant that there were a lot of nervous Swedish players. But what made the Swedes most insecure was the refereeing level in the game. The Swedes suffered five expulsions in the first half, seven in total.
– The party was destroyed by the expulsions we received. We played a quarter of the game with one man less. It is clear that it will be uncertain about it, says the captain of the national team Tomas Axnér to TV6.
“Don’t screw us up”
In the first half, Sweden did not start their attack either, it was too cumbersome and docile.
– Let’s not screw ourselves up, says Axnér.
Emma Lindqvist develops:
– We feel a bit frustrated and stressed when we play so much with fewer players. At half-time we talked a lot about winning the games and that’s why they got a lot of expulsions. Then we said that in the second half we would focus on our own game and win the matches.
But early in the second half, the Czech Republic walked away 17-14.
– It didn’t work for the first few minutes. But then the whole team decided and we won the games. Then we also got the ejections and the passes and we got a good energy in the team, says Lindqvist.
“I have positive energy”
She herself, along with Linn Blohm, makes sure to speed up the attack and the shots.
– I got positive energy from the team and then it became easier to play, she says.
Carin Strömberg was strong in the man-man game.
– She was the key in the men’s manuals, says Axnér.
At half-time Jessica Ryde replaced Filippa Idéhn in goal, it was resolved before the match. The championship rookie made several saves in important situations and was later praised by the captain of the national team.
– She played very well, she was calm and stable, she says.
She herself says of the victory:
– It was very good. I’m happy, but it was a debut and I was a bit shaky, Ryde tells TV6.
Linn Blohm was Sweden’s top scorer with five goals. She was also voted the best player of the match.
– It was a nice feeling and good for self-confidence, she tells TV6.
Important victory
That Sweden won the match against the lowest ranked team in the group was important in order to have a chance to advance to the middle round.
– Many have said that this was an unmissable match. It is now complete and we will now fully focus on finding better resistance, says Lindqvist.
On Saturday awaits Spain, runner-up in the world, and on Monday, Russia, runner-up in the world. The top three teams in the group advance to the intermediate round.
