It started as a common cold.
A week after Dennis Johansson, 28, fell ill with covid-19, he was found dead in his home.
– It was incredible, he didn’t know what to do, his mother tells Borås Tidning.
It started on Wednesday, November 11 with Dennis Johansson feeling a bit hungover. As during the pandemic, the 28-year-old trucker decided to stay home.
He lost his sense of smell and taste, a clear sign of corona, and two days later he had a test. It was positive.
In the days that followed, the illness continued like a common cold with a sore throat and runny nose. On Sunday, he had a high fever of almost 40 degrees, but it dropped a bit until Wednesday.
– But he didn’t have breathing problems or something. On Wednesday we talked again and then she felt a lot better, so I started making lunch boxes for her that she could take to work, her mother tells Borås Tidning, who first wrote about Dennis’s case.

Found lifeless on the couch
When he spoke to his son Thursday morning, he thought he sounded a bit breathless, but he said he felt better and felt calm. When she called a few hours later, he didn’t answer.
In the afternoon, after calling several times without receiving an answer, he finally went to his apartment.
There, Dennis lay lifeless on the couch in front of the television.
– It was incredible, I didn’t know what to do, she says.
Dennis’s sudden death has left his family and friends in shock and grief.

For Mini Persson, Dennis Johansson’s death is unreal, she says she still feels like she should be able to pick up the phone and call him.
– Yesterday we had a memorial service for him in the garage, he loved cars and it was a place he liked. We lit candles and talked for a long time, we laughed and cried between laps. He was a man that many liked, Dennis’s mother tells GP.
For his friend Mini Persson, it is unreal that he is gone. It feels like I can still pick up the phone and call you.
“You must take the pandemic seriously”
Only after an autopsy will it be possible to determine exactly what caused Dennis’s death. But the family is absolutely certain that it was Corona who took his own life too soon.
It is difficult for them to understand that Dennis, who had no underlying diseases, was taken away in this way.
– He was completely healthy and followed the recommendations, he did not go to the pub but took care of himself. Now it didn’t help, which is very unpleasant. We want to talk about this now because everyone must understand that the pandemic must be taken seriously. People should be afraid of themselves, we’ve still been careful, Dennis’s father tells GP.
Footnote: Aftonbladet has been in contact with Dennis’s family, who approved of the newspaper quoting his parents and publishing a photo of him.
