More than 900 people are now hospitalized in Denmark with covid-19. 22 people have died from the disease in the last 24 hours.

Mette Frederiksen is calling for a moderate and reduced New Year’s party so as not to further increase the spread of the infection in the country.

Vaccination has also started in Denmark. Jytte Margrete Frederiksen, 83, was one of the first to receive the covid-19 injection on Sunday.

A total of 1,226 people have died from covid-19 in Denmark. And every day more people are infected.

– The situation is serious, said Mette Frederiksen at a press conference.

– Therefore, we have decided to extend the restrictions until January 17. All non-critical public employees must work from home, preferably private employees as well.

Teaching at home

All school-age children should be taught at home, not just kids slightly older than fifth grade, as before.

Restaurants, cafes and shops, except pharmacies and grocery stores, will be closed until January 17.

– But this is not enough. We should also continue to follow the guidelines above to keep our distance, stay home, and keep our social activities to a minimum.

The prime minister’s call on the Danes to refrain from longer New Year’s celebrations attracted the most attention.

“Organize the New Year’s parties”

– In my opinion, it is not reasonable that the celebration of the New Year means that even more infections are spread. We must not allow a single night of partying to ruin everything we have accomplished, said Mette Frederiksen.

– For this reason, the health protection authorities recommend that we limit the New Year celebrations this year and cancel events that have already been decided. We should only meet people from our own home and from the closest circle of friends.

Søren Brostrøm, who is director of the Danish equivalent of the National Board of Health and Welfare, the National Board of Health, emphasized the Prime Minister’s statement with his own thoughts on the New Year celebrations:

– It doesn’t matter if people go to bed early, said Søren Brostrøm.
