Deniz Arda, 31, was soon missing for two weeks.

Now the police are investigating a crime.

– At lunchtime today, this is a preliminary investigation into the kidnapping, says Ola Österling, press spokesperson for the Stockholm Police, to Aftonbladet.

On Wednesday, November 18, Deniz Arda, 31, was reported missing. He is a specialist officer and holds a high-level position in the Armed Forces.

Deniz Arda, who lives in Södermalm in Stockholm, participated last week in a military exercise in northern Sweden, where he did not show up.

– The last observation is a message that he will go out to train, on Friday, November 13 or Saturday, November 14. It has been said that it would run along the Sörmlandsleden, but it is very long, says Ola Österling, press spokesman for the Stockholm Police.

They have searched along Sörmlandsleden

A large search effort was carried out over the weekend along Sörmlandsleden, south of Stockholm. Among other things, the police have searched by helicopter, the Missing Persons organization has started an operation, and Deniz’s friends and family have been very involved.

– We have also searched digital clues and suggestions have come up. On Monday, all the material that emerged over the weekend was turned over to a group of experienced investigators from the felony section. They have found a new angle in all the material, and today they have criminalized the case as kidnapping, says Ola Österling.

– No new factual details have emerged, but it is a new assessment of existing material, adds Ola Österling, police press spokesperson.

“A possible reason”

Police have connected forensics and other national resources, who do not want to delve into who they are.

That it is military, does it affect the investigation or criminal suspicions, can there be such a motive?

– Of course it is a possible reason, but there is a whole spectrum of possible reasons to investigate and get to the bottom. Investigators look very broad and unconditionally, and have done so since Wednesday, says Ola Österling at the Stockholm Police.

The photos of Sats

The last known photographs of Deniz Arda are from Thursday, November 12.

Surveillance photos of the Sats gym on Kocksgatan in Södermalm show that he arrived at the gym at 1:50 p.m. and left at 3:20 p.m., says Henrik Ehrenfeldt, Deniz Arda’s colleague and friend for many years.

A large network of friends, family and volunteers has continued to search even on Mondays and Tuesdays. Especially on the section between Deniz Arda’s house in Södermalm and Sörmlandsleden.

– No matter what happened, if you had been on a hiking trail, a jogging track, an electric light trail, or anywhere people move, they would have found it by now. This is how it is. So we have to start thinking if he went out into the woods for any reason or if there are dangerous areas, says Henrik Ehrenfeldt.

Tens of thousands have joined a Facebook group and the search will continue.

– We really do everything we can. We work on all cylinders, says his friend Henrik Ehrenfeldt.
