Halmstad did his part and got the promotion on his own.
The same cannot be said for Degerfors.
A 2-0 loss to the AFC means an ongoing wait for a potentially assured fully Swedish comeback.
– Not at all as it usually seems, says a disappointed Johan Bertilsson.
When it became clear that Ljungskile’s match against Jönköping Södra would be moved and postponed due to an unplayable plan, it was also clear that Degerfors needed three points on Saturday to celebrate a promotion immediately after the final signal in Tunavallen.
The chase of that triple was never close to going down the road.
Visiting Degerfors seemed nervous and shaky. AFC otherwise. By the time the final signal passed, a home team involved in the final battle had taken well deserved points against a substandard Degerfors.
– A bad game on our side. Not at all as it usually seems. He does not win duels and is also quite rickety on the ball, says forward Johan Bertilsson, who has a hard time finding explanations for the 2-0 loss.
Was it the heat of the moment that affected you?
– I do not know. It should not be like that. We know that we have to score more points than we have. Nothing is ready for a nickel. I hope it was not something like that.
The weak effort means Degerfors will have to wait a bit longer, with two rounds of the Superettan to play, to possibly make his return to the Allsvenskan after a 23-year absence.
“It will stay a little cool”
However, the question is how long do they have to wait?
If Skarsjövallen in Ljungskile had been playable, we would have already had the answer to that question in the final signal on Saturday. But instead, the meeting between the jumbo table and table three J-Södra started at 5 pm, two hours late and with Gothenburg as the venue. If Jönköping didn’t win that match, Degerfors is ready for the Allsvenskan after all together with Halmstad.
An opportunity that does not open great hopes for Johan Bertilsson after the final signal in Tunavallen.
But will you at least have a target on the phone?
– We’ll follow the trail a bit. But right now you are more disappointed in your own match. At the same time, we do not expect to receive help from anyone. It depends on us.
“I just want to get a good workout”
Coach Tobias Solberg is on the same track:
– It will certainly be on. But it feels sad to start following other games now.
The Degerfors coach is aware that there may be a gold celebration on the player’s bus or a lunch stop during the ride home.
– If it can be. But yeah … I hardly know … I had felt so sad because now we just want to do a good training here on Monday and put in a good effort next Saturday.
