Death of Marius Zaliuka – he turned 36

He has previously represented clubs such as Hearts, Rangers and Leeds United.

Now the Lithuanian Football Federation announces that Marius Zaliukas has passed away, only 36 years old.

“We express our deepest sorrow and think of Marius’s family,” the football association wrote in a press release.

The midfielder is seen as an icon in Scotland when he played 150 games for Heart and was team captain. In Scotland he has also played for Rangers. In 2016 he left to sign for Leeds United.

“I am in shock”

In the Lithuanian national soccer team, there were 25 international matches before he chose, in 2016, to end his career.

Former teammate Neil McCann played with the 36-year-old at Hearts between 2006 and 2008. He’s sad.

– I am in shock. My thoughts turn to his family. He was a very kind man and a person with a big heart. I can’t say enough how nice he was and how good he was at football, McCann says according to the BBC.

The cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Marius Zaliukas turned 36 years old.
