At lunchtime, a man in his 75s walked into a church in the center of Karlskrona.

Despite rapid CPR at the scene, the man’s life could not be saved.

– It is very unpleasant, says Ulf Larsson, who works inside the church and was quickly on site to help.

At 12 o’clock on Wednesday, the man, who is 75, suddenly ran off the road. He entered the Church of the Holy Trinity, also known as the German Church, and crashed just a few meters from the church entrance.

The man was sitting alone in the car as he drove to the church. Police, ambulance and rescue services were called to the scene and were there a few minutes later. The man was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he was found dead.

The police do not know for sure what the cause of the accident is, but they suspect that it is a case of illness.

– The car has been rescued and we have impounded it to rule out that it was a technical fault that caused the accident, says Evelina Olsson, spokeswoman for the Southern Region Police.

According to the police, no other person was injured in connection with the accident.

Ulf Larsson witnessed the fatal accident.

– A colleague and I were having lunch in a restaurant across the street when a car hit the wall. I saw a column of smoke and ran there. He was lifeless and had no pulse, so I ran to church to get a pacemaker, he says.

Ulf Larsson often moves into the area that is often crowded.

– It’s very unpleasant and I think about what could happen at lunch on a good day. It is a pure miracle that no one was there and was hit. There are always people there and I myself have been there thousands of times. There is also a preschool about a hundred yards away and they usually go to the library beyond the church, says Ulf Larsson.

Family members of the deceased have been notified.
