Danny Saucedo: “This year has been shit”

The corona pandemic caused Danny Saucedo to perform again at the Melodifestivalen.
But first he had to turn down the job as host of the competition.
– I do not want to enter as a veteran, I feel that I am young and I want to give, he says.

– The idea slipped at the end of the summer. It was something that popped into my head, but I immediately thought how you said, “No, should I really?” He says over the phone.
But now it is clear that Danny Saucedo will really compete in the Melodifestivalen 2021, with the song “Dandi dans”, something that SVT confirmed this Tuesday morning.
– This year has been shit. My concerts have been stopped, my arena tour was canceled. My creative side turned punk and I felt abstinence. I felt how cool it would have been to be able to create something fat and have the opportunity to show it off. And the only thing that offers it right now is the Melodifestivalen.

“I am young and I want to give”
Danny brainstormed with his manager, but then scrapped the idea. Until General Björkman from the Melodifestival heard from him.
– He said that it is his last year and that he wanted me to be part of leading the first competition. He wanted to include people he knew who meant something to him and to the competition throughout his years. I thought it sounded funny and I was honored that he wanted to be with me. But when I hang up, it starts to bubble into me. Now we are there and sniffing anyway.
In the end, Danny decided.
-I don’t want to enter as a veteran, I feel like I’m young and I want to give. I want to stick my neck out, I want to feel the pulse, I just want to have fun and I think I have something positive to spread.

But then you compete with a song in Swedish?
– Yes.
Many would have thought that you would come back with an English pop song with the aim of winning Eurovision?
– That’s what I thought. When he was wearing a light suit. But that’s not where I am. That is not why I am in the Melodifestivalen. I’m not taking it home, I think I’m over it. I just want to show how good I am at what I do and how much fun I will have. Then people can vote with their hearts and feel whether it resonates with them or not. It is not that important to me. I just want to be a part of the biggest entertainment program in Sweden.
Aftonbladet has previously reported that also Eric Saade will be at the Melodifestivalen 2021. Ten years earlier, Saade took home the victory while Saucedo came second in the competition.

How does it feel to have a duel like this again?
– I do not know. Something I think I learned last time is not to focus so much on everything around me. It took a little bit of me and absorbed all of it. Now I am happy that the old participants are with me again, it will probably be fun too. If you’re aiming for Eurovision, I just feel: Go get it, drive!
Danny Saucedo has competed solo at the Melodifestivalen twice before, except in 2011 also in 2012 when he snagged the silver again after Loreens “Euphoria”. In addition, he has a bronze medal from 2009 along with the group EMD.
