Amorella remains stranded near the island of Järsö in the Åland archipelago, and it will take time to clarify the extent of the damage and what caused the incident, says Eleonora Hansi, information manager for Viking Line Scandinavia.

Depending on the shipping company, there are several holes of different sizes.

– Our aim at the moment is to get Amorella to repairs as soon as possible, but even that needs to be investigated first, how to do better based on the damage situation.

Eleonora Hansi emphasizes that there is no set schedule that shows exactly what time it will occur in the future.

– We are working as soon as we can and the investigation should take the time necessary for us to receive clear information.

According to the people on board at the time of the accident, things went smoothly in the incident, when about 200 passengers and about 80 crew members were on the ship. No injuries were reported and there was no danger to anyone’s life.

– It was calm and quiet in the water and in the middle of the day, so that way the conditions were a little easier than if it had been a different weather or time of day, says Eleonora Hansi.

The passengers, mostly from Sweden and Finland, were picked up on Sunday from the ship with the smaller boats from the sea rescue. They were then taken to different terminals depending on where they were going next.

Some have been allowed to sleep in hotels and others will be on their way home if they are not home yet.

This type of event is unusual

– This is very extraordinary. This is a ship that does this route every day throughout the year and it is very unusual for something to happen that deviates, says Hansi.

The shipping company carries out the further investigation in collaboration with various authorities, mainly the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom.
