In a new request to the city board, Democrats are proposing an extended permit to serve in connection with catering, so that restaurants can serve alcohol in connection with food delivery.
The party notes that the same decision has already been made in Växjö and Malmö, as part of helping an industry that is going through a difficult time during the corona pandemic.
– We want to make things easier for the restaurant industry in the crown crisis. It can even help some hotels, so we see it as a little way from Gothenburg city to show interest in our excellent business life, says Martin Wannholt.
Hope alliance support
The same decision was made in Malmö on Thursday. It is the moderates and the center party who are behind the proposal, which in the political process received the support of the Swedish Liberals and Democrats. The chairman of the municipal board, Torbjörn Tegnhammar, describes it on his Facebook page as a way to “help many catering companies at a time when passivity and lack of interest from the government threatens to wipe out the entire industry.” .
Martin Wannholt also hopes to win the support of the alliance parties here in Gothenburg.
– I hope the alliance catches him, they are the ones who pushed him in Växjö and Malmö. The Green Party should probably join in, too, but you never know, he says.

Do you see anything controversial in this proposal? After all, drinking alcohol is not good for public health.
– It is clear that alcohol is not healthy, even if it is acceptable in moderation. People can buy alcohol at home in any case and have it with food delivery. If instead they buy it in the restaurant, the restaurant makes a little more money and, due to the price, it can lead to a certain withdrawal. So I don’t see any problem with that.
And legally?
– You have been complaining to the administrative board of the county where it was introduced, it would be strange otherwise. But as I understand it, it is not strange: the delivery person pours the beer or wine and then they have already been there and served. The lawyers have to argue about it, now we have a crisis and then we have to accept all the proposals.
Democrats, along with Social Democrats, have also demanded that the crisis management committee be activated. If approved, a proposal can be approved immediately. Without a crisis management committee, a proposal like this must be voted on in the city council before it can become a reality.
