Cutbacks when Gothenburg reorganizes | GP

By the end of the year, Gothenburg’s ten district committees will be closed and work will be centralized instead. It has been called the largest reorganization in the history of the city of Gothenburg and affects tens of thousands of employees.

Among other things, new social boards are created which, in addition to the activities of social services, assume responsibility for working on issues of honor and security.

GP was able to say this week that Socialnämnd Nordost, which works in various vulnerable areas, must cut 53 million crowns from day one. Or if we turn the matter around: if the Northeast Social Welfare Board is going to do the same work it does today, it will cost SEK 53 million more than the alliance board has allocated them, something that has caused internal criticism within the moderates.

– Staff are already on their knees with the shakeup and the crown, so SEK 50 million will also be saved, Johan Fält (M), incoming president of Socialnämnd Nordost, said about the alliance colleagues’ budget.

But this is not exclusive to Socialnämnd Nordost. Heavy cuts await in several places in Gothenburg.

Ten percent cut

At Socialnämnd Sydväst, which includes Västra Frölunda and Tynnered, an even bigger cut awaits: just over SEK 70 million.

This means that approximately 10 percent of the entire business must be eliminated.

– It can have dire consequences at the other end of the organization, then perhaps there is no money when a family is homeless or if someone ends up in an accident and needs help with their housing to cope with life, says Christian Larsson (V ), Second Vice Chairman of the Southwest Social Welfare Board.

At the same time, he is convinced that the alliance government will realize its mistake and shoot the missing millions.

– I am convinced that there will be adjustments. This is not possible and the bourgeois parties have an interest in dealing with this, says Christian Larsson.

Lena Olinder (M), chair of the Sydväst Social Welfare Board, calls the lack of 70 million as a preliminary figure and also hopes it will be adjusted soon.

– It is important that all employees arrive at a safe workplace now when they arrive at a new workplace. I don’t think a deficit is intended, he says.

In his opinion, it must all be a miscalculation.

– I have received indications that the municipal board will adjust it. It has become a mistake and then must be corrected, he says.

Functional support suffers

The new Functional Support Board is also threatened by cuts before operations have had time to begin. The deficit is around SEK 200 million, according to committee member Alice Vernersson (V).

– Many in, for example, daily operations and LSS have been worried about this merger, if they now find that there will be big cuts, they will be even more worried, he says.

Nina Miskovsky (M), municipal councilor with responsibility for social issues, believes that it is not relevant to review the budgets until after the first quarter of 2021.

– I know the problem and we are analyzing it more closely. There is a lot of uncertainty about how costs will be distributed next year and there are many questions about state subsidies from the government and how the crown will develop, he says.

Do your colleagues have the impression that this is a miscalculation?

– No, he does not do it. This is a pretty complicated distribution model. As it is a new organization, with a new distribution, the model does not fully fit the current situation. Right now we are looking at how to adjust it for 2022.
