The Danish government launches a new strategy for crown tests. Those who are infected should isolate themselves, and those living in overcrowded conditions will receive help to stay in hotels or other accommodation.
Everyone who has recently met someone with an established infection should be tested. At the same time, a new organization is being created for the procurement of protective materials and test equipment.
– When we implement a more offensive testing strategy and more protective equipment, it is to be hoped that the elderly and the vulnerable can regain more of their daily lives. Get to know the family and grandchildren, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) says at a press conference.
Today, the Danish regions have the capacity to evaluate about 10,000 people per day. According to the Government, this will be further expanded.
In short, a bill is proposed to give municipalities the responsibility to facilitate the self-isolation of infected people. Hotels, vacation villages and other accommodation that are still empty today can be used to help infected people living with others.
More without symptoms.
The new strategy will mean more infected people will be found without symptoms, says Søren Brostrøm, director of the Health Board.
– We will make a much more specific and focused testing effort to prevent people from being quarantined unnecessarily, he says.
A new infection tracking application is being developed to enable the strategy.
Self-isolation must be done on a voluntary basis, but Danish epidemic legislation already makes it compulsory to isolate citizens. It only happens in some cases, says Denmark’s health minister Magnus Heunicke (S).
– Psychiatric patients and addicts have become compulsively isolated when they refuse to follow the guidelines. It is public that this has happened. We cannot say that it will not happen again. But it only happens exceptionally, he says.
Infection pressure drops
Infection pressure falls in Denmark, despite the gradual opening of Danish society, new figures from the infection control agency Statens serum institut show.
According to the survey, which was conducted from May 1 to 7, the so-called R number (which indicates how many people self-infected) was reduced from 0.9 to 0.7, despite the fact that hairdressers, preschoolers and schools, for example younger children they were opened during the so-called phase one opening. Phase two started on Monday.
– Now we see, when we reach phase two and a much larger part of society opens up. So the infection pressure will probably rise above 1.0. It probably doesn’t matter that much, as long as the health system can keep up, says Søren Riis Paludan, a virus researcher and professor at Aarhus University.
A second wave
Kåre Mølbak of the State Serum Institute believes it is “very unlikely” that a second wave of corona infection will spread, but believes that the pressure of infection will shift from side to side.
– We will do everything in our power to avoid a second wave. I think we have the conditions now. We have learned a lot about how to deal with coronavirus in the community and in hospitals, ”he says.
By Tuesday, about 334,300 people had been screened in Denmark, of whom 10,500 were positive for the coronavirus. 533 people have died from covid-19.
