The Corona pandemic does not end the 56th edition of the Skåne Cup. As usual, thousands of children and young people will gather in the stadium area in Malmö on weekdays, but under the restrictions of the Public Health Agency and government.

– That’s what we’re planning. So we live in an uncertain world, so naturally we follow the development and correct according to how the situation is when we get closer to Christmas, says Skånecupen competition manager Per Ågren.

Registration for the cup, which begins shortly after Christmas, is open and there are currently 335 teams registered.

– There are as many as there usually are at the moment. Many are hungry and many are home for Christmas and New Years and want something to do.

To make sure the cup is safe from an infection control perspective, a few things will change.

– We corrected in the planning schedule and it can happen that a group plays all its matches in a row so that only the group is there during that time. We can divide the Baltic Hall into different parts to reduce the impact areas and the risk of infection.

So if the restrictions are not tightened, will you be able to hold the Skåne Cup safely?

– If we can.

Does the government’s decision not to ease audience restrictions affect the cup?

– Not so far. More decisions may be on the way until Christmas. If it remains, it means that we will not be able to have an audience of more than 50 people. We will not go against the decisions of the government or the Public Health Agency, but we will follow them to the letter.
