Rapid tests are not as safe or easy to perform as the PCR tests that are used now. Despite this, the government and the Swedish Public Health Agency now expect them to act as a relief:

– Samples take time to analyze, even when it goes fast, it usually takes a day before it becomes infected to get a response. So of course it’s interesting with quick tests, says Lena Hallengren.

Difference in tests

Karin Tegmark Wisell, head of department at the Swedish Public Health Agency, explains that there is a difference between the different rapid tests.

– Therefore, we have established criteria for the level of sensitivity in which they should still be useful, says Karin Tegmark Wisell.

Rapid tests will be used as an adjunct to PCR tests.

– This should be seen as an adjunct to the PCR test, says Karin Tegmark Wisell and explains that it can be used while monitoring the infection in a picture of what the spread looks like.

Congestion in commerce

Stefan Löfven (S) also recalled avoiding congestion during black week.

– If it is not possible to buy without avoiding congestion, you should refrain from buying right there.

He also said that it had been a different year, urging the population to persevere.

– We will manage it, but only together will we do it.
