Stefan Johansen is furious with his own seed union, after the news about Lagerbäck.

Lars Lagerbäck was fired as captain of the Norwegian national team.

Something that not all players were aware of.

– Bad communication, Premier League player Stefan Johansen tells VG.

She had just dropped her daughter off at the London preschool when the cell phone rang. It was a WhatsApp message from the Norwegian association NFF, which wrote that Lars Lagerbäck “ends up as captain of the association.”

– For me, this message was a shock. The last time I spoke with Lars and Per Joar Hansen (assistant) they were very motivated to continue. I didn’t see that this would come so fast. It was shocking news, Johansen tells VG.

“Very rare”

Norwegian management decided to bring in the worthy Ståle Solbakken as a replacement. But they never claimed in a first position that they had fired Lagerbäck. This was something that the Swede himself confirmed in later interviews.

Bad, thinks Stefan Johansen.

– It felt very strange that we received information from NFF that Lars had resigned. I interpreted it as if he had chosen to resign, then they were told that he had been fired. I think it was bad communication. We should have told ourselves that it was, he says in the VG interview.

“Not at the meeting”

NFF press manager Gro Tvedt Anderssen believes it was a misunderstanding.

– It is true that the group of players received a short WhatsApp message saying: “Lars resigns as captain of the national team, Ståle Solbakken takes over”. Early in the morning, we had had a phone meeting with the player captains, who gained a greater understanding of the subject. Stefan wasn’t at that meeting because we didn’t contact him. Of course, we had no idea how to get the message across in different ways to the players and the rest of Football Norway, he says.
