In the days leading up to Christmas, there will be a sort of change in the weather to lower degrees, at the same time that the gray weather calms down.
– In Stockholm, there was not enough sun to be able to measure the hours of sunshine until yesterday. But Wednesday will be brighter, and Christmas Eve appears to be, if not sunny, still quite clear, says Linnea Rehn, a meteorologist at SMHI.
Most Swedes come so not to have a white Christmas, but it will probably be less degrees, icy and clear. “Crispy” was the word.
– In any case, it could serve a bit for the Christmas feeling, says Linnea Rehn.
This is because the soft air moves away from the field and settles over Finland, and the cold creeps along the low pressure ridge.
– It won’t be too cold, but on the negative side. Only in the extreme south can any positive grade be hung.
Monday and Tuesday Christmas week However, there will be gray clouds over most of the country, with light splashes of rain, Tuesday is a low pressure that draws over the south of Sweden, which gives rain in the south, but that from north-west Svealand, north of Värmland and northern Dalarna becomes more snowy.
The snow that arrives for Christmas, however, settles where there is already snow, and that border stretches from north of Värmland to north of Sundsvall. From the Costa Alta down it is bare ground.
The last time there was snow Christmas Eve in the south of the country was 2018, when it was initially snowing across Svealand. But you have to go back to 2011 to find a white Christmas with a very thick blanket of snow throughout the country.
– So we had at least one decimeter of snow at every measuring station across the country.
