Åsard also believes that Donald Trump will be a diligent critic of current President Joe Biden and his administration, just as he was against former President Barack Obama before Trump himself joined the fight for the White House.
But it remains to be seen whether Trump’s star will shine brightly in the political sky.
– He still has great control over the party and central voters, but it will show, says Åsard.
– In the aftermath of the post-election storming of the Capitol and the Supreme Court, some of his former supporters, at least among Republicans in Congress, have begun to loosen their ties. The question is whether it will happen at the grassroots level among central voters. It may take a while to appear in that case.
The Supreme Court may be overwhelmed, but Trump may still be the subject of various criminal investigations, most notably regarding the assault on the Capitol and his actions in relation to it.
Recently, a preliminary investigation was launched in which Trump is suspected of trying to influence the election results in the state of Georgia. The former president is also accused of tax crimes that involve his own companies.
– It’s a big concern for him. It’s probably his biggest nightmare to be involved in a specific criminal investigation, Åsard says.
In that case, it could be thrown around in the water by the presence or absence of the president in American politics.
– Your entire future may be affected by it. Above all, it has made it difficult for his own children to have a future in politics, says Åsard, referring to, among other things, his daughter Ivanka Trump and son Donald Trump Jr. who have been prominent during the presidency.
– His destructive actions can counterattack not only himself, but also the next generation within his own family.
