Norway has crossed a new frontier for crown propagation.

Now Prime Minister Erna Solberg says she is considering tougher restrictions, similar to the Swedish model.

– The situation is very uncertain and we follow it day by day.

On Wednesday, Norway announced that the country exceeded the limit of 20 infected per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days, and that the authorities now classify the situation as “red level” and that several strong measures have been implemented.

On Thursday, it was announced that Norway will extend travel restrictions to Sweden and, from the night before to Saturday, a ten-day quarantine will apply for arrivals from Jämtland and Örebro counties.

Warns of further spread of infection

Due to the escalation of the situation, Prime Minister Erna Solberg called a press conference on Thursday afternoon.

According to Solberg, the previous downward trend has been reversed and the country now sees the spread of the infection increasing, especially locally in Bergen and Sarpsborg / Fredrikstad.

– The situation is very uncertain and we follow it day by day.

May be more stringent restrictions

In the coming weeks, according to the prime minister, the development of the infection will be decisive, which above all must be stopped locally.

– We must continue to slow down before we can continue to open up. We cannot ease the measures yet.

If the spread of the infection continues to increase, Norwegians are in for tighter restrictions rather than the gradual relief that was previously promised.

– If the number of cases without a known source of infection continues to increase, or if we are unable to control local outbreaks, we will consider introducing more stringent measures, at local, regional or national level, says the Prime Minister.

Oral protection requirements and reduced crowding

VG has participated in a list of various restrictions that may be relevant:

  • Preventive measures to prevent the spread of infection in healthcare and to strengthen counseling for risk groups.

  • Encourage homework and avoid public transportation.

  • Reduce the number of people allowed at public events to 50 people,

  • Reinforce the recommendation about distance and number in private meetings to a maximum of 5-10 people, depending on the situation.

  • Limit the opening hours allowed for restaurants, bars and cafes.

  • Digitize all teaching in universities.

  • Recommendation on the use of mouth guards in situations where it is not possible to maintain distance, for example, on public transport during peak hours.

FHI: risk of people getting tired

Erna Solberg clarifies, however, that the precondition for stricter restrictions is if a major national outbreak occurs, and it is not currently relevant.

– Right now we have two big outbreaks. In Bergen, they have introduced new rules, several similar to the ones we have on the list. But it is not necessary in places that do not have sprouts.

The Norwegian public health authority, FHI, has announced that Norwegians may have to live with the pandemic and its limitations for several years and warns that, in the meantime, the population may suffer from fatigue.

-People do not have the strength and the ability to comply with such strict rules over time. The parties we’ve seen among young people recently may be an indication of that, says FHI’s Camilla Stoltenberg to the Norwegian news agency NTB.
